The Story of Emmanuel Rostaing-Tayard

Meet Emmanuel Rostaing-Tayard

Emmanuel Rostaing-Tayard is one of those called "children of the country". He grew up in Savigny, a small village of 2,000 inhabitants 35 kilometers from Lyon. Curious, Emmanuel first set out to explore other universes before finally listening to his inner voice calling him to return to his sources, to return home and become a farmer in his turn.

In 2020, Emmanuel has the chance to save the last plots of Gamay de Savigny in extremis. Emmanuel fights to keep the last plot of old vines in Récy, restores it and thus becomes "the irreducible winemaker of Savigny", the only winemaker who shapes the landscape of the town.

Since then, he has 8 hectares, all of which are biodynamic, as this is the only way for Emmanuel to cultivate the vines. He can now also count on his sister, Claire, a herbalist who recently settled in Savigny. Together, they create preparations based on 100% local plants for a biodynamic culture in complete transparency.

In the vineyards, Emmanuel also trusts his teams, especially his seasonal workers whom he pampers, always bearing in mind that "happy people make happy wines"! The domain's appellation is Coteaux du Lyonnais. With the territory of plots starting right after the Beaujolais border and ending at Côte Rotie.

There are two different terroirs

Namely, Granite soil and Basalt Blue volcanic rock, which give a smoky nose to the wine's aroma. The plots are located between 400 and 600 meters altitude, which gives freshness to the wines. What makes Emmanuel's wines even more special is the fact that he is the ONLY winemaker on the blue stone terroirs.

The wines are made without the use of chemicals and Emmanuel adapts his fermentation process each year by observing the climate and weather conditions, ensuring that his wine has the identity that represents its terroirs.

Exclusive production of biodynamic wine

The emotions of his land, you will experience when drinking his wines. For the red wines he only uses the Garmay grape with a production of a maximum of 4000 bottles per year. The white wine is one hundred percent Chardonnay with also a limited quantity of 4000 bottles per year. Here we have found a winegrower who makes his wines with passion and was very enthusiastic to pass this on. The wines are lighter but with finesse and texture. This makes them perfect for any occasion.
